Description

INTRODUCTION

Measuring and understanding variation in our business processes help to identify specifically what the current level of performance is and what needs to change in order to reduce the variability and therefore reduce the defects delivered to Customers. Tools like SQC and SPC  are mandatory to  Control  the Process and  reduce variability.

Statistical Quality Control (SQC) is the term used to describe the set of statistical tools used by Quality Assurance Professionals to help them identifying and analyzing quality problems in the manufacturing  process as well as the product. SQC uses different tools like  Descriptive Statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Acceptance  Sampling. Descriptive statistics are used to describe certain quality characteristics such as the central tendency and variability of observed data.Acceptance sampling helps us decide whether desirable quality has been achieved for a batch of products, and whether to accept or reject the  parts produced. Even though this information is helpful in making the quality acceptance decision after the product has been produced, it does not help us identify and  detect a quality problem during the production process. For this we  require  tools like Statistical Process Control (SPC)

Statistical Process Control Charts(SPC), developed in the 1920s by Dr. Walter Shewhart of the Bell Laboratories. It provide a graphical and visual comparison of a measured process observation against statistically computed “control limits”(expectation) ie.,Visual management of process. Plots performance over real time and shows the changes in the process, if any. Control charts are statistical based devices for addressing process stability.

Today, SQC and SPC Tools are widely deployed throughout many industries in all segments across the Globe.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Primary learning objectives of this course are:

  • To Understand the types of variation that can affect your process i.e Common vs. Special cause.
  • How to use control charts to take appropriate managerial action?
  • How to construct control charts with Minitab and how to interpret control charts?
  • To Improve product and process design & Monitor processes in real time.
  • To make statistically valid decisions & Center the process.
  • To monitor, measure and evaluate the quality of products or services

We will discuss Case Studies and examples. The course will offer many mid-course learning checks and will offer additional reading resources.

The course is developed based on decades of front-line industry experience of the instructor.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE

This course is designed to be a comprehensive course on the concepts of  SQC and SPC and are targeted to those who wish to explore how  SQC and SPC techniques can be used in their own environment or need to know the concepts to understand the use of these techniques already in place at workplace. Senior Management wishing to introduce and employ SQC and SPC techniques in their plants will also benefit from this course.

It is designed for a wide variety of audiences like:

  • Engineers
  • Supervisors
  • Managers
  • Process Engineers
  • Support and service professionals
  • Quality Engineers and managers
  • Production Line Managers and Supervisors
  • Manufacturing Professionals
  • Line operators and work cell supervisors
