Description

INTRODUCTION

The reputation of any organization is built on producing reliability and quality products. We must continue to create new products that reinforce that brand, image and reputation. As we focus on executing the strategy, one of our top most priorities is how to execute the New Product Introduction (NPI) Process to improve overall Quality and Reliability of the products. The NPI team values and encourages the involvement of employees, distributors, suppliers and customers throughout the NPI process. We work in teams, think and act collaboratively, communicate clearly, apply new technologies and manage risk in order to improve the technology, performance, quality, durability and reliability of products and improve continuously to make customers and company stronger and more profitable.

The launching of the Enterprise Strategy shall put an intensive focus on NPI as a Strategic Area of  Improvement (SAI). NPI gives our products a competitive advantage. The NPI SAI focuses on the process requirements mandatory to bring the concept to production phases to meet or exceed targets for quality, reliability,Customer requirement Management Index, APQP Conformance Index and Drawing Change Control Index measure our success in NPI. NPI Dashboard or NPI Score card  is used to track the performance of each and every NPI Program  deliverables  including financials at each Toll Gate.

6 Sigma methodology is the base from which we have improved our product development  process. We utilize the New Product Introduction process, in which the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) steps have been embedded, as the means to ensure our products meet our customers’ requirements at a consistently high level of quality across the enterprise. APQP permits for the identification of special characteristics i.e Critical To Quality (CTQs) and the development and management of PPAP elements. During all parts of the process, there is emphasis on feedback, assessment and corrective actions.

Purchasing and Sourcing will provide the team, supply base, and purchasing processes with shared commitment and accountability to drive successful NPI. This will require us to proactively identify suppliers for key components for each NPI program in the concept phase to ensure their integration and performance throughout the NPI process.

Ultimately, our goal to achieve world-class product quality and innovation requires each of us to live passionately every day. EXCELLENCE is the power of Quality, as we deliver what we promise to our customers. It is ensured that only validated and released, reliable designs into production and by shipping only those products that meet the Standard of Excellence

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Primary learning objectives of this course are:

  • Recognize the Strategic importance to New Product Introduction (NPI) Process
  • The NPI Process is consists of Phases,Activities and Deliverables
  • Identify the NPI Programs Classification and the NPI Team Structure
  • Identify the Cross Functional Team, critical points and concepts at each Toll gate
  • Identify the key elements of Risk Management
  • Recognize 8 Phases of NPI and 8 Toll Gates, one at the end of each phase.
  • Discuss the importance and Need to Clear a Gate in order to proceed to next phase.
  • Why at the end of each phase toll gate the NPI Team needs to assess whether  an acceptable status of progress has been met in that phase
  • Identify the role of NPI Dashboard or NPI Score Card in the NPI Process
  • The NPI process is an SAI, Identified the 4 metrics used to measure the success of an NPI Program. NPI SAI focused  on the process  required  to bring  the concept to production  phases to meet or comply the targets for Reliability, Quality, Cost and Delivery (Schedule).
  • Recognize the integration between NPI, 6 Sigma DFSS and APQP in the NPI Program
  • Identify the importance of early supplier identification and how it enables collaboration in the concept and design phases (CPPD) resulting in lower cost and improved quality.
  • Discuss APQP focus on the process so parts can be manufactured to specifications on a consistent basis.
  • Importance of Should Cost Modeling to generate accurate cost targets so program financials are achieved.
  • Long-Term Agreements provide stability so we can work with suppliers to minimize the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
  • Smooth Production Ramp-Up due to validated suppliers and processes.

We will discuss Case Studies and examples. The course will offer many mid-course learning checks and will offer additional reading resources.

The course is developed based on decades of front-line industry experience of the instructor.
