INTRODUCTION
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
On completion of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the various uses and benefits of NDT
- Learn how to select the appropriate NDT technique for each particular testing need
- Recognize what equipment and associated setup is necessary to perform the NDT technique selected
- Identify the resolution limitations for the data obtained from the selected NDT technique and equipment
- Learn about the advantages and limitations of NDT
- Recognize how each NDT method works including an introduction to the physics and mechanisms behind each of the NDT methods presented
- Learn about the various types of defects that can be detected by the selected NDT technique.
- Understand how to select the proper NDT technique to be used based on the material, part geometry, defect size, and other characteristics of the flaw to be detected and analyzed
- Be aware of the precision required for each measurement, and how to select the appropriate NDT technique and the associated equipment to produce reliable data
- Understand the principles of, and how to properly apply and analyze the data produced by the following NDT methods: radiography, Eddy current, visual examination, acoustic emission, ultrasonic testing, liquid dye penetrant, and magnetic particle inspection.
- Understand NDT Standard Practices and Certifications
- Be aware of proper equipment calibrations and measurement standards
